Tried to go into the basement to dry fire as soon as I got home, but that didn’t happen as Joy wanted to go outside and play before I could head to the basement. Finally made it down, but took Joy with me. Knowing she would be under foot I could not do any movement without not worrying about stepping on her.
I put a chair with a basket in front of me to drop magazines in and did the 6 reload 6 drill. 3 targets at 10 yards simulated. I selected a 3.5 second par time as that is what I could do the double Bill drill in. I screwed up multiple times, but I also made the time a bunch. Felt pretty good. Strong grip, decent draw and reloads, felt good.
I videoed the entire session so I could review it to see what I can fix.
Currently have a membership to Outdoor Adventure Center of Brookings, which is about 18 miles from me. Clean place, good lighting, and other than one problem I had with a RO been great. Got two 5 gallon pails of 9mm brass for $200 from the range, and got Timmy a 5 gallon pail of .40.
Strapped on the belts and made pretend pew-pew. Started with building the draw up again as I was having some issues last time around. Did some shooting while moving.
Moved on to shooting an array of 3 partials with no shoots and 4 poppers, then moved and reloaded and shot an array of 4 open close targets. I shot this multiple times, and changed how I shot the arrays multiple times. Felt decent, could move a bit faster. Keeping my knees bent more and staying lower.
I purchased an CZ Custom Accu-Shadow (Blue) in June of last year and a CZ SP-01 Shadow (Red) in September and have been using them since for USPSA. I currently have only about 3000 rounds through the Accu-Shadow, mostly matches and some practice sessions, the Shadow has about 7000 rounds through it. The Accu was used for some dry fire, but the Shadow was used for 99% of my dry fire. I call them Red and Blue as that is the color of the grips.
Finally got into the basement for a dry fire session this morning after work. Shaking some rust off and warmed up with some draws and reloads. Then some 6 reload 6 at 10 yards trying for 3.5 seconds. Stuck a few of them and screwed up a few.
Did some movement draws starting with just step or two and ending with sprinting several steps.
Worked on memory by picking random arrays off the wall and stringing together the arrays with reloads mixed in. All arrays were mostly partials with no shoots and distances from 10 yards to 40 yards. Finished with plate racks at 20 yards, and mini poppers.
Grip felt strong, reloads are still good. Draw is a bit off on occasion when pushing for speed. I can do repeatable 1.0 second all day, try for .70-80 draws and I screw up when grabbing out of the holster. But the draw is only part of the equation and everything else was feeling good. Shooting tomorrow evening. Going to only shoot groups at 25 yards and try for the tightest group possible and at a decent pace. Taking both the practice gun and the Accu to compare both. Still need to replace the HAJO on the Accu to match the standard Shadow, which is the factory rear and a Dawson Precision fiber front.
